EFL fans forums should be the next step

During the latest Fan Engagement Pod with Gavin Megaw, Managing Director of Hanover’s Corporate and Brand Communications team, an interesting idea was floated: that of fans forums run by the EFL.

The recent crisis over Covid19 has seen the League, its Chair Rick Parry and new CEO, former Burnley CEO Dave Baldwin, address fans directly in statements, and Pod host Kevin Rye, suggested that this could be extended to create fans forums for fans of EFL clubs, with Megaw agreeing that the idea could be a useful one for the competition he used to work for.

He pointed to some of the Fan Engagement initiatives he brought about during his time there, including meeting with concerned supporters’ trusts and fans to discuss problems at individual clubs. The EFL has also ran fans forums in person in 2017/2018 to help explain new refereeing rules to fans.

During the podcast the former Director of Marketing & Communications at the EFL also talked about the importance of resilience, measuring conversations with fans, and ensuring that engagement is led from the front. He also discussed his views on leadership of The FA and Premier League.
